Afternoon Tea at The Atholl Hotel

At Woodlands Care Home, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to connect with our residents’ cherished memories and allow them to keep up with old traditions. That’s why every Thursday afternoon, we reserve a regular table at the Atholl Hotel for their exquisite afternoon tea—a tradition that has quickly become a highlight of the week for so many.

The idea for these visits came about after chatting with our residents, who fondly reminisced about their own trips to the Atholl over the years. Many shared stories of Sunday lunches, afternoon teas, and milestone celebrations, such as birthdays and weddings, at this much-loved local gem. Recognising how special this place is to so many of our residents, we decided to make it part of our regular schedule. Each week, different residents are invited to enjoy an elegant afternoon tea, creating new memories while reflecting on old ones.

What makes these visits even more meaningful is seeing the joy and nostalgia they bring to our residents. After sharing photos and updates from a recent visit on Facebook, we were deeply touched by the comments from families:

  • “We appreciate this so very much. My nan used to love taking us there, and by her smile, she still does.”
  • “Such a special treat for Mum, back to somewhere she loved. Thank you!”
  • “Very special trip out for Mum.”

These outings are about more than just tea and cakes. They’re a chance for our residents to revisit a place close to their hearts, to share stories, and to enjoy a touch of familiarity and comfort. Whether it’s a fond memory of bringing family together or celebrating a life event, the Atholl continues to be a place that feels like home for so many.

It’s these small, thoughtful traditions that help us create lovely experiences and ensure our residents continue to feel connected to the community and the places that matter most to them. We look forward to many more Thursday afternoons at the Atholl!
