Enjoying Aberdeen’s Local Parks and Museums

Engaging with our community enriches our lives and we're always keen to create opportunities to enjoy the local area. In fine weather, we like to take a turn past the bandstand at Duthie Park, enjoy the autumnal colours at Johnston Gardens or head off to Aberdeen Beach for a stroll.

When the weather isn't quite so good we might head down to Starbucks to savour a frothy coffee in the warm and welcoming cafe. Dobbies Garden Centre and the Pets Corner at Hazelhead Park are also much requested trips out. We enjoy whiling away a pleasant afternoon taking in the seasonal blooms or catching up with our fluffy friends—from alpacas to guinea pigs.

A favourite day out is the Gordon Highlanders Museum, which holds a special significance for many of our residents, evoking treasured memories and honouring their military service. The museum is a wonderful space to connect with the wider community. As well as reminiscing about the history of “the Finest Regiment in the World!” we often head out into the memorial gardens to enjoy some fresh air in the sheltered walled garden.

We all find it such a pleasure to spend time out and about in the local community, and it always serves as a lovely reminder of the importance of community connections to residents at our care home in Aberdeen.

To build on our strong commitment to fostering strong ties between Woodlands and the community around us we've added a brand new Community Engagement Board. This serves as a way to foster connections, share important information and encourage participation in local events and initiatives. Keeping in touch and being involved in the community, helps residents and community members stay informed and feel involved in shaping the future of Woodlands.

Enjoying Life at Woodlands

By engaging in the community and hosting events at our care home, we aim to break down stereotypes and showcase the vibrant activities and supportive environment we offer. Inviting local residents to participate in activities we host at Woodlands highlights all the engaging activities we offer to residents but builds community connections and encourages volunteer engagement, ultimately creating a more inclusive and thriving atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
