With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, “Love is in the Air” at Woodlands Care Home.
We have loved talking about what love means to us and how you seem to find it when you least expect it! Residents at our care home in Aberdeenshire have been defining what love means to them in one word and I’m sure you will agree there are some beautiful words within the mix!
"Dedication, Relationship, Sentiment, Enduring, Eternal, Attraction, Family, Sweetheart, Caring, Hugs & Kisses, Warmth & Understanding, Happiness".
We will be turning these hearts into bunting as part of the decorations for our Valentine’s Day afternoon tea.
Whilst finding out about how our residents have found their special someone, many shared about how they met at dances where their eyes locked across a crowded room and spent all night dancing together and knew that was their special one!
But one of the most memorable stories told was about a couple who met completely by chance having both been sent on a bus tour of the paper mill by their parents. Both were around 16 and love wasn’t really on their minds but as fate would have it they were sat next to each other and couldn’t stop talking.
They completely missed any information about the paper mill, all they wanted was to get married straight away but as they were still very young and they were made to wait till they were 19 they then married had 2 wonderful children and lived in married bliss for almost years.
It has been incredibly humbling to hear our residents' stories and also the secrets to such long and happy marriages! Some have said things like love & laughter, and some have said understanding and patience - whatever the secret it seems we are all different but all it takes is that one special person.
We will be organising a special valentine's afternoon tea for all residents on Valentine's Day. Relatives are also welcome to join their loved ones, if you would like to attend please RSVP by 10th February by emailing info@woodlandsaberdeencare.co.uk or calling 01224 059777 and we will gladly reserve a space.
