Wet and Windy Fundraising Fun!

At Woodlands Care Home, we believe that life is about making memories, no matter your age or circumstances. That’s why we’ve been working hard this year to raise funds for Make-A-Wish UK, a truly wonderful charity that helps bring joy and hope to children living with life-threatening illnesses.
So far, we’ve raised an incredible £3,164—and it’s all thanks to the passion, determination, and perhaps a wee touch of madness from our amazing team here at Woodlands! From muddy obstacle courses to skydiving, we’ve been pulling together to take on some big challenges, all in the name of making a difference.

Tackling Tough Mudder

It all started with a group of our staff taking on the Tough Mudder challenge earlier this year. If you’ve never heard of it, Tough Mudder is no ordinary charity run—it’s a proper endurance test with mud, obstacles, and all sorts of challenges designed to push you to your limits. And trust me, it did!
The team trained hard for weeks, not only to get themselves fit but to build the teamwork needed to tackle such a daunting course. And what a day it turned out to be! There were moments of struggle (and lots of mud!), but the laughter and sense of accomplishment made it all worthwhile. Even better, the experience brought everyone closer together, and we’ve made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Taking Fundraising to New Heights

Not to be outdone, two of our most adventurous team members, Margaret and Steve, decided to take things to the next level—literally! In August, they faced their fears and took part in a skydive to raise money for Make-A-Wish UK. Now, I think we can all agree that throwing yourself out of a plane isn’t exactly a walk in the park, but Margaret and Steve were absolutely determined to give it a go. Watching their bravery and sheer excitement was inspiring. It’s a moment none of us will ever forget, and it just goes to show that age really is just a number!

The Loony Dook!

As if all that wasn’t enough, we’re already gearing up for our next challenge: the Loony Dook at Aberdeen Beach on New Year’s Day. For those who don’t know, the Loony Dook involves braving the freezing cold waters of the North Sea—not something for the faint-hearted, especially in January! We’re all feeling a mix of excitement and nerves about this one. But one thing’s for sure—it’ll be a brilliant way to start the new year. And no matter how cold we get, knowing that we’re raising money for such a worthwhile cause will keep us going.

Why Make-A-Wish UK Means So Much to Us

At the heart of all this effort is our commitment to supporting Make-A-Wish UK. This amazing charity has been granting wishes for children and young people living with serious illnesses since 1986. These wishes might be anything from meeting a hero to having a dream holiday or even a special bedroom makeover. It’s hard to put into words just how much these moments mean to the children and their families. They bring joy, hope, and the chance to create precious memories during what can be incredibly difficult times. For all of us at Woodlands, being able to play even a small part in making those wishes come true is deeply humbling.

A Huge Thank You

We couldn’t have done any of this without the amazing support we’ve received so far—from our residents, their families, and the local community. Whether it’s been donations, kind words, or cheering us on from the sidelines, your support means the world to us.mAs we look ahead to the Loony Dook and beyond, we’re more motivated than ever to keep fundraising for this special cause. Together, we can help grant even more magical wishes to children who truly deserve them. Thank you from all of us at Woodlands Care Home.
